Above:  A good view of the Tien Shan mountains to the south of Almaty, and a photo of the English speaking church we attend about 2 times a month.

Below: Here is a photo of one of our frequent trips to the post office.  Tanya is a believer.  She works in our local post office.  We don't have home delivery of mail.  Tanya calls us on the phone when mail comes in.  The Post Office is only open from 10-12 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  Usually Tanya calls at 11:45.  We run right over because the package might get stolen if we left it overnight.

Your packages come in one of these bags which is sewn shut.  Tanya has to cut the thread to get the packages out.   There is no heat in the post office so we bought Tanya a small electric heater which at least kept the office above freezing.

Above:  Two shots of the market.  Shopping takes much more time here.  For hard to get items like cereal, cake mix, and chicken breast  you have to "buy it when you see it".

At Right:  Noah playing chess in the "chess park".  The regulars don't want to play him because they are afraid of loosing to a child!
