1/09/2001-2/24/2001:  We have continued our weekly evangelistic Senior's lunches every Friday.  We read either a chapter of Genesis or a New Testament passage.  We read Genesis chapter 5  last week.  I can provide a little commentary in Kazakh now.  It isn't much but it is encouraging to be able to add some explanation to something in the passage we have just read.  We also sing a hymn and 2 or 3 Kazakh folk songs after lunch.

In the photo at right are:

Kenjerhali, Beezoorah,   Uruhskanum, and Kametni.

Kenjerhali's older brother died about a month ago.  Kenje is going home March 8th for the 40th day observance.

Beezoorah has a daughter in our building and grandchildren.  We hope they will come to one of Molly's English Classes.

Uruhskanum sewed 4 Kazakh chair cushions for us to use in our lunches.  She is the senior member of our group at 77 years of age.

Kametni came last fall to visit her daughter and got stuck here because of the very severe winter in the eastern part of Kazakhstan where temperatures hit -68f and they had 3-4 meters of snow.  We are pleased to have her with us!

Keep them in your prayers.

3/2001-9/2001:  Laili's mom Sawle was a regular with us from March through September.  Sawle has another daughter who married an American and lives in Seattle.  Sawle spends fall and winter there helping with her 2 grandchildren.  Please pray for her salvation.

5/18/2001, (Right)  Ray Glinsky (Grace Church of Dupage Mission's pastor) joined us in May for our senior's lunch.  Kanat (to Molly's left) is a deacon in a Kazakh church in another city.  He comes to Almaty to sell handcrafted Kazakh rugs that 8 women in his church weave by hand.  He joins us when he is in town.  This day he brought two unbelieving friends.  Rosila (one of Ira Ida's teachers) also joined us.
