The horses and camels spend most of the year roaming wild in the wilderness around the village.  The animals eat a sparse but protein rich grass that grows in the surrounding desert.  The camels and horses are brought in once a year to give birth.  The camels are also sheared at this time.  Each camels wool brings in around $15.  A 4 or 5 year old camel's meat can be sold for around $1500.  We heard the baby camels mournful cry for their mothers day and night while we were in the village.
