ROASTED SHEEP'S HEAD
Traditional Kazakh Dish 8/99 We didn't just eat the head and neither do the Kazakhs. The head is a special traditional thing. We all tried it (except for our sensitive Amanda.) We ate the small muscles around the eyes (for better vision) the ears (for better hearing) and the tongue (for our language learning.) You don't actually eat the organ (eye, ear, tongue, feet) you eat the small pieces of meat (i.e muscle) that move the organ. The eye only had tiny pieces of muscle and we skinned the tongue before eating it. The ears had almost no meat and were mainly fatty stuff. Ira Ida also ate the meat on the feet! The BRAIN is supposed to be the best part. It is usually given to honored guests. That would discourage visitors in America. The head tastes good, but I like horse meat even better! (Kevin) |
