We live about 10 miles from downtown Almaty in a district called Kalkaman.  Kalkaman used to be a separate village but was annexed to Almaty in 2000.  It is the western edge of Almaty.   We purchased our home in May of 1999 and added a bedroom for Noah that summer.  You ca read about that at the following link:  July 1999 Noah's Room ProjectThat brought the house to 900 square feet with 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, 1 bath, and a living room.

Right:  Our House is a duplex.  This photo is taken from the back of the house looking toward the street.  This is our back door.  We don't have a door on the front of the house but we do have a side door. You can just barely see the other half  in the far left of this photo.  The right half of the duplex is where we live.  The left half is owned by our neighbor.

We added a the two-story addition in the photo in the late summer and early fall of 2007.  It serves as Molly's office/school room on the first floor and parlor/guest room/access to the attic on the second floor. You can read about that project at: 2007 Adding Molly's Office and Our 2nd Story Prayer Closet.  That project brought the house to 1060 square feet.

The original part of the house is made of prefabricated concrete slabs (10-16 inches thick) which were welded together and then plastered over.  The two additions are framed construction and drywall.

To the right is a view of our street from our gate looking south toward the mountains.  Nearly all yards (front and back) are fenced so that you can't see in.  Our road is paved but dirt roads are the rule around homes.   Below is a view from the end of our street looking toward the mountains.
